Not seen in public since being embroiled in a prostitution scandal in October 2022, Chinese superstar pianist Li Yundi (李雲迪) is recently rumored to be gearing up for a comeback performance in Australia come November 2023!

On The Heels of Leehom’s Comeback Announcement

The 40-year-old piano legend resurfaced on social media after an absence of 411 days, posting a hands-only video of himself playing the piano on Weibo. Captioned “Never forgotten”, the song was widely interpreted as a tribute to the late Chinese president Jiang Zemin (江泽民), whom the pianist had once performed for; and showed him dress in black. The video upload came hot on the heels of Li Yundi’s good friend, singer Leehom Wang’s (王力宏) recent announcement of a Las Vegas concert comeback, and is seen as a “testing of waters” by the pianist.

Netizens who caught Croatian pianist Maksim Mrvica’s recent performance also spilled that Li Yundi’s name was among the lineup of pianists invited to perform in Australia from 1 to 5 November 2023, with the organizers describing him as “one of the most acclaimed classical musicians of this generation”. Boycotted by China following his detainment for soliciting sex services, the prince of piano fell from grace and had his name stripped from the Chinese Musicians’ Association.
