Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan caused fans to worry last month when he appeared at an event with a head of grey and white hair.
The star has been silent about the Internet chatter till yesterday (April 7) which happened to be his 70th birthday.”
Jackie broached the topic by sharing pictures of his younger self on Instagram.
“Even before today, many friends have been reminding me: Jackie, it’s going to be your 70th birthday.” Every time I hear this number, my heart would stop for a second. I’m 70 years old already?” he wrote.
“After recovering from the shock, the second thing that would come to my mind is a saying that my big brother Sammo Hung once said: ‘Being able to grow old is a fortunate thing’.
Jackie goes on to say: “Especially for stunt people. We don’t know how lucky we are to be able to grow old.
He also added that the pictures he posted “brings back so many fond memories.”
“All I can say is: I love making movies and I love you all.”
The movie icon also said many friends reached out to check on his health after seeing the pictures from last month, and he assured everyone that he is in good health.
Jackie also said his current look is for an upcoming film.
The martial arts star is slated to reprise his role in the new Karate Kid, the sixth film in the franchise.
“Over the years, I’ve always been willing to try new things for a movie, no matter if it is a challenging stunt or a breakthrough appearance for a character,” he says.
In a sea of well wishes from around the world, singer Wang Leehom went the extra mile by sending a video of himself performing his song ‘Need Someone’s Company’.
Leehom shared in the video that he had heard Jackie listening to the song and he now wanted to sing it for him, albeit with some changes to the lyrics.
“Seeing a back look so familiar, it’s the eldest brother sweeping the floor by himself again, and the whole set has become clean, and the eldest brother is picking up the rubbish by himself again,” he sang which is a nod to Jackie’s hands-on attitude while on set.
Both Jackie and Leehom became close friends after starring in 2010’s Little Big Soldier together. They also often appear as special guests at each other’s events and concerts.
Leehom also said in the video: “You are our role model, an approachable superstar. You have won an Oscar, but you are still working hard. I send you blessings, warmth, and comfort because the world is more perfect with a big brother.”
“The movies you make and the stories you tell are admired by the whole world. Wishing our dearest brother a happy birthday!” he added.
Happy birthday, Jackie!
