The semifinals of MBC’s idol audition show “Fantasy Boys” kicked off this week!
“Fantasy Boys” is the male version of “My Teen Girl,” the audition program that gave rise to the rookie girl group CLASS:y last year. Hosted by TVXQ’s Changmin, the show features celebrity producers 2PM’s Wooyoung, B1A4’s Jung Jinyoung, WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon, and (G)I-DLE’s Jeon Soyeon.
On the May 25 episode of the show, the contestants began their semifinal mission—the “Producer’s New Song mission”—in which the 28 surviving trainees (the top 27 from Semester 4 and one special producer’s pick) took on four brand-new songs by the celebrity producers.
There were three ways to earn benefits in the mission, which was an individual competition. After watching the contestants perform, the live studio audience voted for their favorite member, and the contestant with the most votes from each team would receive a benefit.
The second way to win a benefit was by being the producer’s pick: each celebrity producer chose one contestant who performed his or her song to receive the “producer’s benefit.”
Finally, all the members of the team that received the most individual audience votes overall would receive a benefit as well.

The episode began by revealing that the one lucky contestant who would be saved from elimination by the producers was Ha Seokhee.
Then, after playing a fateful game of rock-paper-scissors, the four producers personally hand-picked the teams that would be performing their new songs in the semifinals. Jeon Soyeon won the game, so she got to pick one member first, followed by Kang Seung Yoon, Wooyoung, and Jung Jinyoung.
Later on in the episode, three of the teams took the stage to perform their new songs. (The performance of Wooyoung’s song, “Snacks,” will air on next week’s episode.)
